Evlo workouts are designed to be effective with basic equipment. Most items can be found around your home, and many are optional.

The pieces of equipment that truly matter are dumbbells. Everything else supports comfort or variety, but nothing should stop you from getting started.

Recommended equipment

Dumbbells (required)

To get the most out of Evlo’s strength training, you’ll want an assortment of dumbbells that allow you to challenge different muscle groups.

Most members use three or more sets of dumbbells:
  • Light (e.g., 5 lbs) for exercises like shoulder abductions
  • Moderate (e.g., 15 lbs) for exercises like bicep curls
  • Heavy (e.g., 30 lbs) for lower body work

How to Check your weights

Choose a weight you can lift for 8–15 controlled bicep curls, until unable to do another rep.
  • More than 15 reps → too light
  • Fewer than 8 reps → too heavy
Use this as your “moderate” weight, then scale lighter and heavier for your other dumbbells.

Resistance bands (helpful but optional)

Long resistance bands are used occasionally to assist movements or add variety. They’re helpful, but not required to begin. We use the blue and black sets from the link below.

Pilates ball (helpful but optional)

A Pilates ball is often used for support or positioning in certain exercises. It’s very helpful, but not required. In some cases, a pillow can be used as a substitute.

Other support items

These items are used occasionally and can usually be replaced with household items.
  • Chair or bench — a sturdy kitchen chair works well

  • Gliders — socks, towels, or paper plates work

  • Step or stool — a sturdy stack of books works in some cases
